Welcome to Somerville Secondary College. As Acting Principal of the College, I believe that my job is to make sure that all members of the College staff work alongside parents and carers to ensure that each child grows both academically and socially.
At Somerville Secondary College we have dedicated and talented staff members who place the student at the heart of every decision. Our staff are highly experienced professionals who understand that building positive relationships is a foundation for great learning outcomes and success for our students.
I feel very privileged to lead a team of educators who are committed to their own professional learning growth. As a College we learn together and we expect our teachers to discuss the learning needs of the students based on evidence, creating learning sequences and developing teaching strategies that allow them to meet the needs of every student in their class. I expect students to be provided with a safe, inclusive and orderly learning environment which engages them in their learning and inspires them to grow.
At Somerville I expect all students to feel valued every day. The work we undertake is guided by our vision statement and College Values of Integrity, Respect and Responsibility. These values form the basis of all interactions between staff, students, parents and the broader community as we work together to support students in their learning to achieve their desired pathways.
I expect our students to have:
- The right to learn
- The right to be respected
Our Senior program offers a range of learning experiences and pathways. We support the career goals of our students through the provision of relevant, evidence-based, careers guidance. Our approach to the later years is to be adaptive to student needs and provide opportunities for success across all areas.
It is also important that we recognise the whole child and provide opportunities for extra-curricular engagement. At Somerville Secondary College students may be involved in sport, music, drama, cultural experiences and student leadership.
As a Principal I value the happiness of our students and the opportunity to create lasting, joyous memories, whilst achieving great personal academic growth. We are a school community where students, parents and all school staff are committed to strong and constructive relationships that achieve successful outcomes for all students. Students who feel safe, challenged and supported by a positive school culture will be the best they can be.
I encourage you to come and talk to us about your child’s learning journey.
