The English curriculum offers increasing choice to students in the texts studied as they progress to Year 10. Emphasis at each level is on building skills in writing for particular purposes and audiences. Reading skills are purposefully taught to ensure that students can read and understand the more difficult texts they will meet in later years.
Students at all levels undertake computer based reading level and skills testing at the beginning and end of the year. Students in Year 7 and Year 9 complete the NAPLAN national tests in March each year. In Year 10, formal examinations in English are held each semester, in preparation for Year 11 VCE studies.
